Great Price Sony KDL-26S3000 for

Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-26S3000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

This model was recently discontinued. I managed to find one for 0, delivered, online from Beach Camera in NJ and it arrived this Tuesday. I immediately ran to my local cable company office and traded in my old digital converter box for a Hi Def converter box. I require a converter box because I subscribe to all of the Premium channels, so although I could probably pick up many Hi Def channels without it, I would loose the Premium channels.

I did see the replacement model in a Circuit City and the picture was equally as gorgeous, but does not have Surround Sound, the speakers are half the wattage of this model and it lacks a number of other features. Others have reviewed the new model on Amazon, so you can easily read the differences.

It has a gazzilon options in terms of picture. I find new things every day. I have the cable box connected with an HDMI cable, which I had to buy, since my cable company only provides composite cables with the Hi Def box and HDMI is infinitely better, having now used both.

I am absolutely thrilled with this set. I am a long time Sony fan anyway.

If you are in the market for a 26" Hi Def....and can still get your hands on this model...DO IT! You will not be sorry.

The sound is quite good. The base is more stable than many of the others that I looked at. (I live in an earthquake prone area, so stability is an important issue for me.) The case is simple and attractive. It is not gaudy or shiney. I did not want a high gloss finish anyway. It will not be the dust magnet that the high gloss ones are.

I have it in my bedroom, which is a small room. When I want larger sound (like for the many Premium cable movies that I watch), I play the TV through my Bose Wave Radio, which has wonderful sound for a small room. However, just for listening to news or whatever, I use the set's speakers, which are much larger than the new model, and sound just fine in surround mode. I also like the fact that it has a stereo, mini plug, headphone jack, as I tend to be a late night person and don't want to disturb my neighbors.

I had connected my standard DVD Player (but have since gotten a Sony Uploading DVD Player)and the picture looks wonderful. For my discs, I also play the sound through my Bose Wave, which has an additional Multimedia Pedestal, allowing me to connect the audio of 3 components, in my case TV, DVD and Laser Disc. Given that I have a small bedroom with no real space for a stereo system with free standing speakers, the Bose Wave, which has a very small foot print, is an excellent compromise.

I need to emphasize that this model is a far superior set to all the others that I looked at in 26".

My final words to you are: BUY IT!!!!!!!

Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations with more detail, enhance contrast, and dynamically improve color performance. > Digital Noise Reduction Circuits: Reduces block noise and mosquito noise by using pixel-level filtering to reproduce a clean and clear picture. And Motion Vector Noise Reduction reduces just the noise in the video signal for video further reducing unwanted noise and blur artifacts. Digital Contrast Enhancer circuit: Improves contrast by enhancing all areas from dark to bright in parallel with texture control providing a three dimensional picture. > Color Reality signal processing enables the expression of all the colors of life in vivid detail for dark and bright scenes. Live Color Creation (featuring WCG-CCFL)
Live Color Creation is a special Sony function that achieves precise, wide color reproduction using a combination of advanced chroma signal processing algorithms. A special wide color gamut backlight (WCG-CCFL) is coupled with Sony’s Live Color Creation circuitry. The benefit is clear blues, natural greens and overall vibrant colors in all scenes.

Xross Media Bar (XMB) On-Screen Menu System
Xross Media Bar is Sony’s Emmy Award2 winning on-screen navigation that provides quick access to various set up functions and features. For instance selecting different types of media is made fun and easy by scrolling horizontally across icons until you find the type of media you are looking for. After selecting the media type, a list of its content appears as vertical thumbnails. Key set up menus and features work the same way. The main benefit of the XMB is that users can navigate through on-screen menus without taking their eyes off of their TV.

DMe Compatibility
DMex compatibility allows the connection and operation of a whole new category of products that is being developed by Sony (sold separately). The first of these products is the optional BRAVIA Internet Video Link module.

BRAVIA Theatre Sync
BRAVIA Theatre Sync reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, changing the signal routing, and adjusting other functions to the simple push of one button. All you need to do is to connect BRAVIA Theatre Sync capable products to each other via one HDMI cable. The rest is easy. For instance, the One Push Play function activates by touching the play button on the remote and BRAVIA Theatre Sync takes over from there. The BRAVIA Home Theatre System and TV turn on. The DVD input on the BRAVIA Theatre system and TV activates. The TV mutes. And finally the DVD plays. There are two other BRAVIA Theatre Sync functions - One-Push Theatre Settings, which provides optimal picture and sound settings for movies and One-Push System Shut Down for turning off the entire home entertainment system.

S-Force Front Surround
S-Force Front Surround is a virtual surround sound experience made possible using just two front speakers in select BRAVIA models. To accomplish this, Sony spent several years studying how our ears work. By understanding exactly how we recognize the origin, direction, volume and timing differences in sound right and left ear, Sony was able to create complex audio processing that delivers dynamic virtual surround sound without the need to bounce sound off walls and back to the listener.

HDMI and PC Connectivity
Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA S-Series Digital LCD TV line is equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. Sony’s Freeze Function is a useful function that allows you to temporarily freeze the picture in a separate screen while the programming continues to display. This comes in handy when you want to copy a recipe, phone number, etc. that flashes too quickly across your screen. Simply touch the "Freeze" button on the remote control and copy the details down at your convenience.

Awesome. - zjs1 - New York City, USA
Great TV and computer monitor. HD channels look crisp. Auto-tune was easy. I didn't mess with the settings much. I sometimes flip the Light Sensor (I turn it on when using it as a monitor otherwise it is too bright). It has better resolution than the IBM X61 laptop I hook up to it. My Windows Vista desktop looks cool when it fills up the full 26-inch widescreen (I had to change one setting once to get the resolution set perfectly). Good sound as well - I rarely need to turn the volume above 33-35, and the max is 100.

One of my buddies commented that he would be able to use this as a computer monitor from the couch, which is 8 or 9 feet away. Of course, that would strain the eyes after not too long, but the point is that a person with normal eyesight can read 12-point text on a 26-inch bravia screen from 9 feet away. That's pretty good, yes?

The week after I got this in the mail (smooth and quick delivery; well-packed), I was at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York. One of the floors had a section of video and computer graphic art. All the exhibits were using Sony Bravia TVs. I'm sure it was part of a sponsorship deal or something, but another way of looking at it is that a group of folks (i.e. professional video and graphic artists) that one can expect to be very concerned with picture quality selected this LCD TV. Naturally, I took this as a sign from god.

The SONY Bravia KDL26S3000 - Doris Howard - San Francisco, CA
The SONY BRAVIA KDL-26S3000 is fine except for the POWER on/off capacity. It doesn't want to turn ON in response to the remote or the POWER button on the machine. It especially does not want to turn off. The POWER button must be held down for 30-40 seconds on both the remote or the button on the machine. It also needs a full minute to warm up before you can change to another channel.

Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-26M4000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Wanted a small HDTV that would fit in a cabinet opening, finally settled on this Sony Bravia 720p with some trepidation as I have a 1080p set from another brand in the living room and thought that the picture quality might be less than I was becoming accustomed to. Turns out I didn't need to worry, the picture is beautiful, sharp and clear. Seems every bit as realistic as the 1080p Sharp Aquos in the other room.

The room it sits in gets a lot of sunlight, but the picture is bright and colorful and unaffected unless we open the blinds and put sunlight directly on the screen. I like the favorites setting and the unit is fairly easy to operate. If I could figure out how to make the remote also control my Dish unit it would be even easier to operate. Nothing really to complain about with this HDTV.

Recurring problem with Bravias - K. Gilbertson - Decorah IA
This is a nice TV, great for general use for the most part. The one issue that it fails at, and on epic proportions, is the internal computer. I have a recurring problem with two different bravias, but I'm only writing the review for this one. The entire screen will dim when a dark scene is present. If you're watching Star Wars and the screen is showing a picture of "space", the dark picture will cause the tv to dim the entire screen. You've no idea how maddening this is. So beware. Sony makes other good TVs, but after the runaround I got from "support," my suggestion is to stay clear of this one.

Love my sony - dior - Sacramento, CA
Purchased this in March 2009 for bedroom. Was easy to set up and install channels from Comcast. Had no problems. I have on fireplace mantel and it fits fine. I've not dabbled in a lot of the features and settings as I'm a basic user. There's a slight delay in turning on and showing the picture which just takes some getting use to. The sound is great. I don't notice any picture change from different angles, however, I view fairly head on. The only thing I still don't like is the use of the remote control. The buttons seem to have a slight delay and doesn't function as well as past tvs (Sony and Toshiba alike)

Don't Trust Sony Warranty - GN -
I purchased this TVSony Bravia M-Series KDL-26M4000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV for my mother and paid the premium for a Sony as I wanted to be sure my mother would not experience any problems. To our surprise, after 10 months, the picture went bad. Fortunately, there was a 1 year warranty with the TV. My mother was easily able to access the Sony warranty people on the phone who arranged for her to receive the exact same model BUT one that was refurbished. This "new" refurbished TV came with only a 90 day warranty as opposed to the one year warranty on the new TV I originally purchased. This refurbished TV went bad after just a few weeks. At that point, Sony offered my mother a 32" inch "new" TV for an additional 0. That was ridiculous as this price, plus the original paid for the malfunctioning 26", would mean that we paid over 0 for a 32" TV that costs 9 today new on Amazon. So my mother requested that she simply receive a new 26" TV to replace the original purchase that went bad within the warranty period. They said all they can do is give her another refurbished 26" TV with a 90 day warranty. So basically, our new TV with a year warranty has been reduced to a refurbished TV with a 90 day warranty. In addition, my mother has spent many days without a working TV. This will definitely be the last Sony TV purchase I ever make as they clearly no longer stand behind their product.

LG 26LH20 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

I bought this LG after getting a gigantic 32inch panasonic that was so damn big i couldn't hardly lift it, and in any case would not fit into my sweet 1960s danish modern wall unit, no matter how i adjusted the shelves. (note to amazon tv buyers: when you see the pix of the tv with the dimensions, even though the pix shows the tv on the stand, the dimensions are for the screen itself, sans stand, as if it were mounted on the wall. stand adds another 3 inches or so to height). I am pretty well satisfied with it so far. It assembles super easily; you plug it into your dish or cable hook up and it smart syncs all your previous favorite channels and so forth automatically. it swivels, the styling is nice, and the picture is good. Only thing i did not like is the manual that came with it. Left out many details, like how you switch from tv to aux (wii) mode...(since i was coming from a much older tv, i didn't automatically know how to do it). the sound on this is fine for a smaller room -- but the audio is not super beefy.....and i may not be the one to judge the picture quality as i did not pop for paying extra to my satellite provider for high def...but all in all, a nice sleek, (thin) tv...easy to hoist and assemble and program...the remote is pretty intuitive. for the price, i feel like i got a pretty good deal.

Good, entry-level LCD - Coach24 -
I purchased this TV based on the fact that I love my older 37 inch LG LCD tv. However I have found that while this is a good tv, its not great. The viewing angle is not as good as my older LG. As you move left or right the color fades (in HD or SD) especially with live tv (ie sports). Head-on the picture is pretty good with a variety of color/picture settings to fine-tune it. I have also found that you do have to crank the volume pretty high to hear the tv as well. If you are looking for a small TV to put in a bedroom where you will always be watching it head-on, for the money, its a pretty good choice. In my case, I do have it in the bedroom, but I have it mounted on the wall with a full-motion mount so I can turn it if I am not watching head-on.

Good video; bad sound AND no analog audio outputs! - Greg in NJ - Bridgewater, NJ USA
I bought this locally in Dec 2009 and naïvely assumed it had SOME sort of analog output (for external speakers or headphones). It doesn't; the only audio output is optical/TOSlink, which is a real disappointment for me.

VIDEO
Unless you will use it as a computer monitor, the 720p resolution is fine; with smaller televisions (under 32", for sure), there is little difference between 720p and the more expensive 1080p (which is hard to find in small televisions, anyway). Anything you use as a computer monitor should be 1080p, though. I actually feed it UHF (analog) over coax from a distant two-tuner Dish Network receiver, and the picture, while not HD, is much better than I expected, and this means I don't have to rewire my house for a 3rd satellite receiver. We watch this in the bedroom - usually news or a documentary and not movies, so it's all good. Oh, one more thing: s-video is increasingly rare on new televisions, and this model does NOT have an s-video input (2 HDMI, 1 composite only).

AUDIO
The sound quality, like that of pretty much any small television, is dismal. I ended up buying Behringer MS40 external speakers (which I reviewed here on Amazon) because they had TOSlink (optical) inputs. They were expensive and not that great.

So, if you will be closer to the television than 10' or more, or have excellent hearing in a quiet environment, this is a fine set; if you are more discerning on the audio side, will be in a less-than-silent environment, or don't have ideal hearing, you might want to think twice and look at units with analog outputs which will enable you to use an inexpensive pair of self-powered computer speakers.

Great Picture. Easy Setup. - R. Young - Texas
This is a very nice TV for the bedroom. Great picture and sound. SD channels even look good. I use it for both OTA and satellite reception. Setup was very easy for me. Wish it had more than one each of component and composite inputs, but overall I still give it a five. Ordered from Amazon with free shipping and it arrived in 3 days.

Great TV - John Davis - Alabama
Works great, picture quality is great even on SD content as long as your not too close. Some other people say the sound is bad but I have not had any trouble with it once I did some adjusting. I use it with a samsung Blu-Ray player and it works great really like that the remote for the Blu-Ray player can control many functions of the TV.

Nice tv. - Donald Furrer -
Very fast shipping. Was a little apprehensive about purchasing a TV over the internet. But I was reassured by Amazon that returns would not be a problem. The TV picture was good right out of the box - only a little tweaking. The sound is adequate for our bedroom. No issues with any noise when it was in standby mode.

Christmas gift for my Son - Debra S. King -
I purchased this TV for my oldest son for Christmas. His primary use is in his bedroom, so he did not need a huge screen. He has been very pleased with the TV. He's told me the picture clarity is good, and the size is just right for his room.

Check Out Sony Bravia L-Series KDL-26L5000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black

Sony Bravia L-Series KDL-26L5000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black Review

(Revised 2/21/2010: Sorry, folks, the Red push is just too much for the mrs and me. I'm attempting to return this set today, as further viewing with all that red and anemic blue is simply too annoying and can't be corrected. If you don't mind this -- to me -- serious problem, it's your choice. But surely SONY should be able to do better than this.) Purchased from eDirect before I found Amazon's listing. I was swayed by all the 5-star reviews at Amazon (nowadays, as viewed in showroom setups, there's no way to judge image quality). The mosquito noise seen in showrooms appears in my living room as well, though it's not as prominent as on other LCD's. As for comments about "great color", I'm not sure what that oft-used phrase is supposed to mean; this tv is deficient in Blue and has a 25% Red push that glows like neon and often bleeds like the reds on dirt-cheap store brand CRT's. The SONY at least has RGB adjustments, although RGB Gain can only be reduced, not increased -- a really odd design. In one picture mode, Red is pushed 34%, which looks bizarre but which apparently appeals to "great color" enthusiasts. Sadly, SONY doesn't provide color Y-level controls, not even in the miniscule service menu. In Cinema/Warm Mode the grayscale RGB is admirably flat except for a typically elevated Blue "leg" from 40-IRE on down; most LCD's have such grayscales, ostensibly to make blacks look darker (actually, it just makes blacks look blue, not black. The value R16G16B16 (digital black) is a color rarely seen on HDTV's). After some drastic and very tricky RGB adjustments with help from a colorimeter and HCFR software, blacks looked more neutral and the Red push was made at least tolerable, but high-red gamma suffered somewhat. At least it kept most skin tones from looking like terminal cases of third-degree burn, although fair-skinned people often have an unsightly hot-pink tint. The overall image is suitably contrasty and sharp, and SD sources look much cleaner than with most LCD's. With HD and SD, there's some noisy moire in fine-grained objects like sequinned gowns and heavy wool coats, and shimmer when very high-contrast objects move. But those effects are common on many LCDs. Low-IRE gamma is a bit aggressive, making some darks look rather inky, especially with BluRay; thankfully there's a backlight control that helps a bit. Motion is mostly handled well, even without 120-hz gimmicks (which don't work anyway, because refresh rate isn't the source of LCD motion blur). Turn off noise reduction, which adds its own artifacts and makes motion blur worse. Thankfully I haven't seen judder or stutter so far, but I saw a mild case of upscaling jaggies. With a pristine image source, the overall picture is better than average and looks quite sharp and snappy, without phony edge enhancement. I measured the real-world contrast at around 2100:1, an impressive figure, with excellent darks and crisp whites: black and white movies play nicely. Less perfect sources (low contrast, noisy, low-density scenes in fog, heavy rain, etc.) just look smeared and murky -- this is digital video's fault, not SONY's. BluRay looks very punchy and sharp, though BR compression artifacts are easy to spot. As far as a generally cleaner image is concerned, SD-DVD looks much better on this set than on other 26-inchers I've seen. At this size, the difference between 720 lines and 1080 couldn't be seen, even with a 37" 1080p sitting beside it. If your BluRay player outputs 720i or 720p, set it that way; HD-DVD downscaling doesn't play well here. The tuner is fairly fast; channel cruising is a bit slow, but I've seen much worse. Setup instructions warn that channel scanning takes 50 minutes; my scan found 100-plus cable stations in 12 minutes. Audio ain't great, but it's cleaner and louder than averege and works well from its coax output (but no headphone jack!). Viewing angle is narrow, about 15 degrees either side, a tad wider than some others. Overall I'd say it's an above-average LCD, aided by limited RGB controls but marred mostly by annoying Reds and absent the full-featured CIE adjustments found on some sets. It nicely replaces the average low-quality generic 20" or 24" CRT. But if your old, higher-end smallish CRT still works well and can be calibrated, stick with the tube.

Great except for extremely narrow viewing angle. - JDS - San Francisco, CA
Great except for extremely narrow viewing angle. If you view the screen from any angle over 30º from dead on, the picture gets very light and unsaturated. Since this TV is in the bedroom, it isn't a big problem but is disappointing.

We purchased this set from Amazon Warehouse and couldn't be more pleased. The description read there was a blemish on the housing, but after thoroughly looking it over, we couldn't find a single flaw! The picture quality is superb and the setup was very simple. It has everything you could ask for in a bedroom or small space HD TV.

Check Out Samsung LN26C450 26-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black) for Too low to display

Samsung LN26C450 26-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black) Review

We bought this TV for our bedroom.
This is a great looking TV and the reddish horizontal line at the bottom is subtle. It is sleek and the controls are almost invisible when you are looking at the TV from a front point of view. In fact the power button is discreet to a fault as we turn the power on via the power button on the TV - not the remote - it's on the side and you can't see it so you have to "feel" for the power button. Now maybe in a brighter room this wouldn't be a problem but our TV sits inside of an amoire. The picture is beautiful and clear and of course especially on the HDTV channels. The sound is excellent (I think earlier versions of this TV had sound quality complaints). The setup process was not as easy as expected as we had to spend some time on the phone with Comcast to get things correctly set up and subsequently had to get a new box for all the HDTV channels.
Would definetly recommend this Samsung HDTV.

BRAVIA Engine Full Digital Video Processor
BRAVIA S-Series LCD televisions use Sony's BRAVIA Engine full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Details in dark areas of the picture are there, just like they are supposed to be.

BRAVIA Internet Video Link
The first DMex product to be introduced to the market is the DMX-NV1 BRAVIA Internet Video Link module (sold separately). BIVL, as it is affectionately called, can stream available Internet video from select content providers directly to your TV with a broadband connection3 without the need for a PC.

HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. The HDMI and PC inputs (HD-15-pin) offer easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA S-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

Light Sensor-2
Intelligently adjusts the screen brightness to match the ambient light in a room, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience. In a dim room for example the screen automatically reduces brightness making it much more comfortable for viewing.
Freeze Function

Good Transaction - Robert W. Lull -
Product arrived with no delivery handling or timing problems at all.
Setup and installation went perfect. I have it connected directy to the cable wire, no cable box. The picture is terrific.

Advantages - very reasonable price, no sales tax, home delivery with no problems, easy setup, excellent quality product. Want more than that?

Great Price Sony KDL-26M4000 for

BRAVIA Engine Full Digital Video Processor
BRAVIA S-Series LCD televisions use Sony's BRAVIA Engine full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Details in dark areas of the picture are there, just like they are supposed to be.
